The Gundersens Get A Venue

On a local public T.V. show.  I can't embed the video for some reason, find it here.  The topic is what is the link between TMI, Chernobyl and Fukushima?  Well, you know lies are about to spew....let's dig in!

First, Maggie suggests that TMI may have caused radiation burns to people! HA!  That typically requires a dose in excess of 2 Gy!  And loss of livestock?  C'mon now, that's ridiculous.

Arnie then spins a half-truth on the Wing TMI study.  The problem with that study is that it didn't recognize and correct for an obvious confounder, radon.  Pennsylvania has significant radon concentrations.  He also used higher radioactivity levels than what was demonstrated to be released.  Vergeiner's testimony wasn't included because there wasn't enough radioactivity released to require a plume analysis.  Read more here.

How does Maggie and the filmmaker know who got cancer from TMI versus radon or smoking or exposure to some other carcinogen?  Of course, they don't, they're just fabricating stuff.

They then move on to depleted uranium (DU), which is used in weapons because it is very dense and pyrophoric.  Of course, its health effects have been well-studied and no ill effects found.  But the Gundersens know that it kills people 25 years later.  How do they know?  They imagine it.  And what does DU have to do with the show's topic?

Arnie, how was TMI covered up?  The plant announced an emergency and notified the appropriate government agencies.  The agencies notified the media, it was on the news everyday.

Arnie suggests that the Japanese government knowingly evacuated citizens into a radioactive plume.  Evidence please.  In any event, the plume wouldn't result in significant doses.  They don't even mention that this was happening after an earthquake and tsunami which killed thousands of citizens.

I can agree with Arnie on the problems with bureaucracies, that has and will continue to exist.  And we should expect another nuclear accident somewhere in the next decade or so.

But then Maggie comes up with "and it effects the DNA of the entire human race...what does it mean for us as a species?"  HA!  And they all look so serious and gloomy-doomy.  It's despicable.

The host then tells us about the horrors that were inflicted on the Marshall Islanders...oh, the travesty!  The truth is that most of the Islanders (with some exceptions) can expect a small cancer risk increase.  And she tells us what people, who are not scientists or scholars, are seeing with their own eyes!  And this particular woman was with a church group.    Jesus, she isn't very bright....we are informed about epidemiology by doing the science of epidemiology.

Arnie lies about scientists having problems getting reports published because of industrial pressure.  Americans have been allowed to go to Chernobyl and study and publish in the U.S.  He is referring to one Russian who was convicted of taking bribes.  If the government didn't want him to publish, he wouldn't have published anything, yet you can go to that last link (go to the page bottom) and click on one of his papers.  I'm not sure which "scientist" Maggie was referring to, probably Alexey Yablokov, who doesn't understand epidemiology.

Then they go into their government-industry conspiracy theory stuff.  Certainly there are elements of that, but it's not like 100% of all employees are co-conspirators in an attempt to profit.

Oh, and they're not going to watch Jon Stewart's show,  he must be upset.

I'm not going to get into the middle of NEI's criticism of the Gundersens.  My criticisms are my own.  But I can understand why NEI has a sound basis for criticisms.

Maggie then lies about nothing at all is being done to protect the kids around Fukushima.  She is a liar.

The host, "It's so sad that the truth is like a perfect diamond in this culture"...well, it certainly isn't shining on your show.

It must be nice to fly to Italy to see opera premiers...what a great con they have going!
