Epigenetics in Squamous Cell Carcinoma

It was thought the protein DNp63a regulated the common tumor suppressor gene p53.  But that's not the case. DNp63A, working with a partner protein, silences anti-proliferative genes which normally keep a cell from dividing too much.  With those genes silenced, cancer cells can proliferate.
